The MoTec ECU's from M-Tech

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect to achieve for money spent on a MoTeC ECU?

The main advantage that you should be able to notice is improved midrange "feel" and power controllability. You will not necessarily have improved top end horse power figures. You will be able to adjust the engine characteristics to the conditions of the day (i.e. a wet race map might have a softer power delivery than a dry race map). As you improve and develop the engine internals and exhaust system, you can adjust the ignition, injection and rev limit to suit the modifications. You will no longer have to wait for a new ECU with the appropriate settings.

How do I upgrade my ECU?

Software updates are available from here. Hardware update may be purchased over the telephone with a credit card and installed directly by means of a password into your ECU.

Can I use the ECU on a new bike next year?

Yes providing that the engine type can be run from your existing ECU. If you are planning to do this, it may be prudent to purchase the M800 initially as not only is it a higher spec, higher performing ECU, it has greater flexibility in what type of engine configuration it can run. You could even put it on your road car during the winter!

How do I wire the ECU up?

You can either wire it yourself to a wiring diagram supplied by us or we will build you a proper race loom using Raychem Spec.44 cable and DR-25 shrink tubing. (A donor loom may be required).

How do I initially start the engine?

We will either supply a start up map with which you will be able to start and run the engine. Then you can fine tune it yourself or we will do the initial setup ourselves on your bike if we do not have a start up map.

If I am currently running a Marelli EMS and electronic dash/logging system, will I save weight by using a MoTec system?

Yes.  If you use an M800 and MoTec ADL you will save about 750gms.
