| VBOX Thermocouple input module |

The VBOX Thermocouple module takes 8 thermocouple inputs and
converts them to CAN. It is primarily designed to connect to a VBOX II S or
VBox 111
and allows the user to log thermocouple data along with the normal channels
of VBOX data. Because the module is connected via CAN to the VBOX this means
that the conversion to CAN is carried out very close to the temperature
source. The range of the thermocouple module is -100 to +1200 °C, and a 24 bit A-D is used for conversion. There is an option for a K-Type extension block which utilises a sophisticated cold junction compensation module to ensure 0.1°C accuracy even during a fast transient environmental temperature change. This is especially useful in automotive testing, as temperatures in the engine bay or cabin can change rapidly through 40 degrees or more in the period of a few minutes. Conventional cold junction compensation does not track evenly across all cold junctions through such a dynamic change, and result in errors of 5 to 10 degrees. The extension block supplied with the VBOX Thermocouple module retains an even temperature across all 8 cold junctions and reference by using a specially machined CNC block which houses the cold junctions, in very close proximity, and encases them in thermocouple grease. This ensures that the accuracies of the readings are un-surpassed in such an environment.
